From July 18 to August 17 at the « Konzerthaus » in Berlin, an international concert was held by the WBYO – Western Balkans Youth Orchestra, where representatives from several countries took part, mainly from the Balkans, where the well-known bassoonist represented the Republic of Kosovo. Young Belinda Mehana tells the Swiss newspaper Le Canton27.ch the moment when for the first time she presented Kosovo with the wind instrument bassoon in a festival of this international character.
« This year I was part of the summer tour « Western Balkans go Pop and Rock » where, in addition to classical pieces (verdi, mussorsgky, villa lobos), we have orchestral arrangements of the most famous Balkan songs. This was a very prestigious and important festival. It is my first time participating in this orchestra and I feel very proud to represent Kosovo in concerts and in different places. That’s why I am proud and very happy to have presented my country in this internationally renowned festival… said the bassoonist from Kosovo, Belinda Mehana.
Her presentation was welcomed with long frenetic applause from hundreds of people present from all over the world in the « Konzerthaus » hall in Berlin.
These young men and women are part of the orchestra from the Western Balkans « WBYO ». This project aims at the unification of the Balkans through music and the artistic and cultural growth of female musicians.
Next, Belinda Mehana said that « from Kosovo we played the work of the group « Fisniket »; « Oj dada sale » arranged by Maxilion Kilchert, which was also played at our concert on August 16 at the Berlin Konzerthaus as part of the WBYO – Western Balkans Youth Orchestra. In total, we had songs from different countries such as: Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia, Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, etc… these songs have united us but taught us about the culture of another country. In short, it was a good experience.. »
Who is Belinda Mehana, the young Albanian bassoonist who is successfully presenting Kosovo in different countries of the world?
Belinda Mehana from Vushtrri, after finishing high school in solo singing, decided to continue her studies at the Faculty of Arts, Music Department at the University of Pristina, respectively at the « Hasan Prishtina » Faculty of Music, the instrumental direction of the Bassoon department, which is dedicated to the lessons he receives regarding this wind instrument.
Mehana tells the moment when for the first time her family members and relatives realized that she will study the wind instrument bassoon.
21-year-old Belinda, this promising young student has been part of many concerts that have been held at the Kosovo Opera. She is the winner of the first places in the many concerts that have been held inside and outside the country, such as in Albania, North Macedonia, etc… One of her successes these days was also in Germany, where she shone in the hall, presenting the Republic in a worthy way. of Kosovo.
Despite her commitment to studies, the student has ambitions to continue by participating in various concerts.
